2021 Climate Adaptation Summit - Agroecology for Adaptation
Watch our contribution to the 2021 Climate Adaptation Summit
As we grapple with the reality of accelerating climate change, we are also becoming increasingly aware that there are no easy solutions. Our response must match the complexity of the challenge. This is clearly demonstrated than in the intricate linkages between climate change and our food systems, which have been further compounded by the Covid-19 pandemic. Agroecology is a proven approach for building resilience at the local level. It improves productivity on the farm, while contributing to better management of natural resources and ecosystems. It further links farmers to social networks, consumers, and institutions that have a stake in transforming our food systems.
The video "Agroecology for Adaptation - Systemic Challenges/Systemic Responses" shares perspectives from diverse experts on how to create an enabling environment to support smallholder-led innovations for climate change adaptation. It builds on the paper, "Systemic Challenges, Systemic Responses: Innovating Adaptation to Climate Change through Agroecology", which outlines five key messages that can contribute to a common language between the climate and agriculture communities, and hence build effective alliances for change. It was featured as a video contribution to the 2021 Climate Adaptation Summit.
Many thanks to Yodit Kebede from IRD, Christel Weller-Molongua from GIZ, Michael Hauser from ICRISAT and Fergus Sinclair from ICRAF for their contributions.
