TMG Think Tank for Sustainability

What I really like about the initiative is that it’s going to break down silos between the three Rio Conventions to work comprehensively on women’s land rights. It also puts local organizations and our communities at the forefront. Only together can we generate diverse discussions and accelerate change.

We recognize that solutions for women's land rights under the Rio Conventions have transformative potential to address the climate crisis, biodiversity loss and land degradation. We want to strengthen the dialogue between the Conventions and the respective stakeholders. Not only do all conventions offer their own respective entry points for strengthening women's land rights, but the potential impact of creating synergies between the conventions is strong. Once the entry points for creating synergies are identified and implemented, they could lead to transformative results in advancing land-related commitments and realizing the land rights agenda.

To build on the momentum, we are establishing a strategic initiative comprising several phases, including preparatory meetings, a dialogue platform as well as follow-up meetings after key moments of the Rio Conventions, such as the Conference of the Parties to advance the land rights agenda for women under the Rio Conventions. In July 2023, TMG Research, the Robert Bosch Stiftung and the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) organized a first workshop in Berlin. In June 2024, TMG Research, the Robert Bosch Stiftung, co-hosted by UNCCD, UNCBD, and UNFCC, will jointly organize a second workshop to capitalize on the momentum created by hosting all three Conferences of the Parties (COPs) within one year.

Leveraging momentum for women's land rights: enhancing an initiative for synergies across conventions

The Robert Bosch Stiftung and TMG Research are organizing a multi-day workshop to discuss solutions for women's land rights under the Rio Conventions.

Activists from around the world have joined us and the Robert Bosch Stiftung at the Women's Land Rights Workshop to advocate for women's land rights to take their rightful place at the heart of a just climate action.

We celebrate all our participants, and also spotlight a few Land Rights Advocates leading change in their communities.
