Workshop
2025's Annual Convening of the Women's Land Rights Initiative
This year's Women's Land Rights Initiative captures the expertise of a diversity of stakeholders and the power of coalition building to advance our cause.
Women's land rights are an enabling factor for the success of many of the policies across the three UN Conventions on climate, biodiversity and desertification. Tremendous opportunities exist to capitalise on prior achievements and leverage entry points, like gender programming, to effectively anchor women's land rights to the success of global climate policy. Since 2023, the Women's Land Rights Initiative began unleashing the tremendous potential that lies in integrating women's land rights in the Rio Conventions.
The first workshop in 2023 provided an introduction to the Convention spaces and to how women’s land rights feature within them. In 2024, we very concretely identified and prioritised entry points for strengthening women’s land rights and leveraging synergies across Conventions. We also recognised that to create impact, we need time, consistency and strength in numbers and constituencies. This is what brings us to the 2025 workshop, which will provide us with a space to build on and advance our key areas of focus and design targeted action.
This workshop brings together women-led grassroots organisations, international NGOs, government stakeholders and representatives from the three Rio Conventions to exchange expertise and capture the power of coalition building to advance our cause.
