Under the theme “The Role of Intermediary Cities of Africa in the Implementation of the Agenda 2030 of the United Nations and the African Union Agenda 2063” this year's 9th Africities Summit is hosted by the County of Kisumu in Kenya.
Africa is rapidly urbanizing. Intermediary cities such as Kisumu are among the fastest-growing on the continent. This fast growth comes with manifold challenges, including increasing inequality, rising unemployment, and deficient public services and infrastructure. The event serves as a platform for local governments of Africa to learn from each other and exchange experiences on different governance approaches to make cities and human settlements more inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable.
