High-level event: Women’s land rights for effective restoration efforts: understanding synergies, taking action
This session will present examples of effective approaches to strengthening women’s land rights and provide recommendations to achieve gender justice within both land and natural resource rights, and land and ecosystem restoration initiatives
The UNCCD Secretariat has been a leader in promoting women’s land rights as a cross-cutting foundation for effective action across the three Rio Conventions. For the past two years, it has co-hosted an initiative on women’s land rights with the two sister Conventions (UNFCCC and CBD). This session will present attendees with a clear overview of the strong standards set by and for UNCCD Parties.We will present examples of effective approaches will be presented that strengthen women’s land rights in all their diversity; provide recommendations for more equitable, participatory, and coordinated action; and argue for stronger resourcing to achieve gender justice within both land and natural resource rights and land and ecosystem restoration initiatives.
