Last Thursday TMG hosted the session "Just transformations – Tenure rights as the basis for restoring land and biodiversity while protecting people and livelihoods" at CBD COP 15. Taking place in Montreal, Canada, the session highlighted the cross-cutting importance of legitimate land tenure rights for the Rio Conventions, by learning from the UNCCD land tenure decision (26/COP.14) and the lessons that can be drawn for the UNCBD.

As stated in the IISD report, participants stressed the importance of the protection of legitimate land tenure rights as part and parcel of an enabling environment for implementation of the Rio Conventions and, in particular, the protection of biological diversity.
