Barend Erasmus was Director of the Global Change Institute (GCI) at the University of the Witwatersrand from 2014 to 2019. Having obtained his PhD in Zoology from the University of Pretoria he spent a short time at the University of Stellenbosch, before spending most of his working career at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg.
