In collaboration with diverse partners, TMG will co-host two COP 27 side events looking at how to strengthen governance systems to manage deeply interconnected food and climate crises.
At the first-ever food system day at a negotiating session of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), TMG will co-host a session titled, True Cost Accounting as a Tool for Food Systems Transformation under Climate Change Conditions. The event will showcase how true cost accounting (TCA) can serve as a tool (a) for crisis management of transboundary threats, (b) to better understand the interlinkages between pressing issues such as climate change and biodiversity loss, (c) to improve food production systems by making them more resilient and (d) to establish pathways towards healthy, sustainable and affordable diets.
During the two-day Global Landscapes Forum - Frontiers of Change conference on the sidelines of COP 27, TMG and the IGAD-Climate Predication and Applications Centre (ICPAC) will co-host an online event titled, Early Warning - Early Action Systems to address transboundary threats. Building on an innovative machine learning-based tool developed for the eastern Africa and Horn region, the session will highlight how to better manage interconnected hazards, including droughts, floods and transboundary crop pest and pathogen outbreaks. At the heart of the discussions will be identifying governance models that can strengthen anticipatory actions to counter the increasingly transboundary nature of climate risks and impacts.
