Institutions across all levels play a vital role in achieving gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls. But who gets to shape how institutions evolve?
TMG Research and its partners from Kenya, South Africa and Turkey answer this question by taking as the starting point women-led, grassroots and civil society organizations operating at the center of the transformation. Only by starting with their perspectives can stakeholders up the global ladder contribute to policies and global agendas that reflect the needs of a rapidly changing global landscape.
Over the course of four events, we embrace this starting point and add to it a collage of voices from across the political spectrum. Together, we explore gender-just pathways to address food insecurity, land rights, gender-based violence and accountability mechanisms that promote women’s inclusion, economic and social empowerment, and stronger social protection measures.
Our diverse array of speakers hails from the Callas Foundation, Clooney Foundation for Justice, Food Agency Cape Town, Ford Foundation, Heinrich Böll Foundation South Africa, Huairou Commission, Kenya Land Alliance, Rainforest Foundation UK, Social Change Assistance Trust, Turkish Green Crescent Society and UN Women.
Join us for lively discussions around questions like:
How can digital tools be a catalyst for securing women’s land rights, holding perpetrators to account and transforming government policies?
How do addiction, gender-based violence and food insecurity intersect? How can we break these interconnected cycles by utilising community-based health support initiatives and food hubs?
Why is a feminist perspective paramount to transforming food access in urban settings? How can data be used to both shape grassroots initiatives and hold governments accountable for ensuring gender-sensitive policies?
Finally, how can these findings guide both local and national responses to secure women’s rights and shape global dialogues?
These questions arrive as the sustainable development goals are only a mere six years away from a red-hot deadline. Against this backdrop, recognizing the potential these answers hold to steer a gender-just transition has never been more decisive.
